Today we left the hotel at 6:30 a.m. to take a train from Brussels to The Hague, Netherlands (also known as "Den Haag") for a visit to the International Criminal Court (ICC). After our appointment there, we ate lunch and roamed around the city. I've always heard the city is bicycle friendly, but I didn't realize that everyone rode bikes to get around, even small children! There were thousands of bikes on bike-stands everywhere you looked.
We spent about 3 hours in the city and decided to leave around 3:00. When we got to the train station we found out there had been an accident that delayed all train routes to Brussels. We ended up switching trains 4 times to get around the chaos and finally made it back to our hotel in Brussels around 7:30. Exhausting!
But we pushed forward and didn't skip a beat. A few of us had dinner together and ate mussels, then walked down the street to another chocolate shop to sample more truffles. This wasn't the end though because by the time we finally got back to the room, we realized that since it's our last night in Brussels, we didn't have much time left to get a legit Belgian waffle. We stopped at a place called "The Waffle Factory" where I had the most delicious food I've ever put in my mouth: a fresh waffle with warm Nutella and chocolate on top.
Now I'm in a sugar coma. This has been a busy day so I'm going to rest up and post more updates tomorrow! Tot ziens! ("Goodbye" in Dutch Flemish, another language spoken in Belgium)
P.S. Pictures from top to bottom: Ashton and me on a bus leaving the ICC; downtown at The Hague; Tina and me on a bus leaving the city headed for the train station; mussels at dinner; large container of Nutella at the place where we got our waffles.
Mussels in Brussels and the largest container of Nutella ever...I don't know how we'll ever get you to come home! Love you and glad you're having fun.
ReplyDeleteYou can't go wrong with Nutella! I too had Nutella this morning. . . on a bagel, much less glamourous than an official Belgium Waffle. Miss you, be safe, have fun!

Dang, wish I had a legit belgian waffle. And Michael is now wanting Nutella constantly so thanks for that! HA!
ReplyDeleteRach: I think that your food descriptions are the best. Perhaps a future as a food critic? Now, even all the lovely world products and produce at the Dekalb County Farmers Market won't be inticing to you since you have actually been to those countries and shopped in their markets. : )
ReplyDeleteMuch love,
